FIFI EL INMENSO

This portrait is part of my A-Seres series, where I paint characters from my neighborhood who, with their gestures, stories, and contradictions, represent the living memory of Old Havana. Inspired by a man marked by the street, prison, and alcohol — known for his incoherent, machista speeches that made us laugh on street corners during the pandemic — his figure went viral without him ever getting any benefit from it. I paint these faces not to celebrate or condemn them, but to bear witness to their presence, to their broken laughter, and to the imperfect truth of my surroundings — because in it I find the need and the strength to paint.
