REFRESHMENT

This body emerging from the cold because there is no silence capable of containing life. The woman pushing the refrigerator is the same woman who pushes against the walls alongside me: flesh against metal, a cry against confinement, reminding me that what is repressed always seeks to escape and that what is intimate does not freeze—it overflows.

I am also speaking about food scarcity in Cuba and the strength many single mothers summon to move forward and provide food for their children.
